Hippotherapy
Speech Therapy / Occupational Therapy
The term hippotherapy refers to how therapy professionals use evidence-based practice and clinical reasoning in the purposeful manipulation of equine movement as a therapy tool to engage sensory, neuromotor and cognitive systems to promote functional outcomes.
The point of hippotherapy is NOT to teach the client how to ride the horse. The horse is only used in a complementary manner to facilitate the identified ST/OT goals.
Psychotherapy Incorporating Equine (PIE)
Dr. Katie Holtcamp is a leading expert in the facilitation of PIE and maintains a robust research program with Oxford Treatment Center exploring the physiological underpinnings of this method. These services will be brought on-site to Dogwood in early 2025.
